Hon. (Dr.) (Mrs.) Thusitha Wijemanna,— To ask the Prime Minister and Minister of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development, Vocational Training & Skills Development and Youth Affairs,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) of the annual usage of timber in Sri Lanka; and
(ii) if so, how that timber requirement is met?
(b) Will he also inform this House—
(i) whether he is aware of the fact that timber is imported to Sri Lanka;
(ii) if so, of the quantity of sawn timber imported within the period from 2014 to 2016 and the value of such timber for each year;
(iii) of the value of timber products imported to this country as furniture within the aforesaid three years;
(iv) of the total amount spent on timber imported within those three years;
(v) of the reasons for the rapid increase in importing timber in the recent past; and
(vi) of the steps that will be taken to minimize the huge amount of foreign exchange spent on importing timber to this country?
(c) If not, why?
