Hon. S. C. Mutukumarana,— To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Economic Affairs, Irrigation and Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Development,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether he is aware of the fact that the small tanks in Anuradhapura district are getting rapidly filled with invasive aquatic plants such as common water hyacinth;
(ii) whether he admits the fact that the invasion of the aforesaid aquatic plants has spread even to the medium scale tanks such as “Katiyawa Wewa”;
(iii) whether he admits the fact that the invasion of these aquatic plants may affect the paddy cultivation in the future making it a problem that affects the whole nation; and
(iv) whether action will be taken to completely stop the invasion of the aforesaid aquatic plants?
(b) If not, why?
