Hon. Charles Nirmalanathan,— To ask the Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industries,—
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) the main livelihood of a majority of people, living in 20 Grama Niladhari divisions in the Vengala Chettikulama Divisional Secretary’s division in the district of Vavunia, is agriculture;
(ii) the above farmers face numerous difficulties in accessing the relevant Agrarian Services Center and obtaining its services as the area of the Vengala Chettikulama Divisional Secretary’s division is too large; and
(iii) farmers residing in some villages of Vengala Chettikulama have to travel as long as 40 Kilometers to the Agrarian Services Center in order to obtain their agrarian services?
(b) Will he inform this House whether steps would be taken to establish a new Agrarian Services Center for the farmers residing in the Vengala Chettikulama area to obtain agrarian services?
(c) If not, why?
