Hon. Imran Maharoof,—To ask the Minister of Energy,— (1)
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) of the number of hours for which power supply had been disconnected in the Kinniya CEB Consumer Service Center area from 01.01.2023 to 20.12.2024, separately for each area;
(ii) whether he accepts that the public in these areas including the students studying online and people engaged in their jobs were severely inconvenienced due to the disconnections referred to above;
(iii) whether he is aware that disconnecting the power supply to this area occurs frequently;
(iv) if so, the reasons for the frequent power outages referred to above; and
(v) whether remedial measures have been taken regarding the matter so far?
(b) Will he also inform this House—
(i) whether he accepts that there is a mechanism of issuing the monthly electricity bill via SMS instead of the printed electricity bill;
(ii) whether he accepts that the system in question causes significant inconvenience for elderly citizens as well as those without smartphones; and.
(iii) if so, whether he will take action to issue the printed electricity bill instead, as per the previous practice?
(c) If not, why?
