Hon. M.S. Uthumalebbe,— To ask the Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources,— (1)
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) a fisherman named E.L. Irfan, a resident of Sinna Palamunai area, who had ventured for deep sea fishing from the Kappaladi fishing pier in Addalachchenai on 12.07.2024, was washed ashore on the Tamil Nadu coast and was brought back to Sri Lanka on 20.11.2024 after 130 days; and
(ii) a fisherman named K.S. Nishfar, a resident of Addalachchenai 06 area died during the incident?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources has paid compensation to the deceased fisherman K.S. Nishfar;
(ii) whether compensation has been paid to the fisherman E.L. Irfan and for his damaged boat; and
(iii) if so, of the amounts paid as compensation to the above-mentioned fishermen, separately?
(b) If not, why?
