Hon. Eran Wickramaratne,— To ask the Minister of Health,—
(a) Will he inform this House of—
(i) the process to select suppliers of surgical gloves used in hospitals ;
(ii) the names and designations of persons making decisions on purchase of surgical gloves;
(iii) the standard clauses in supply contract in relation to the date of delivery, period of delivery, and failure to supply the product within the agreed time; and
(iv) the amount allocated and spent on the purchase of surgical gloves for the years 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011, separately?
(b) Will he admit that —
(i) a fraud regarding the purchase of surgical gloves has been revealed in a preliminary investigation; and
(ii) this fraud has been referred to the Ministry of Finance and Planning for further investigation?
(c) Will he state —
(i) the nature of the aforesaid fraud;
(ii) the financial loss due to the fraud; and
(iii) the results of the investigation, if it was done as (b) (ii) ?
(d) If not, why ?
