Hon. Ajith Mannapperuma,— To ask the Minister of Power and Energy,—
(a) Is he aware that the Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Energy has stated that the Norochcholai thermal power plant is not up to the expected standards?
(b) Will he inform this House in relation to that power plant —
(i) the estimated sum and the sum spent on the first phase;
(ii) whether an agreement with a warranty period of time had been entered into with the relevant construction company with regard to the standard, equipment and operational standard;
(iii) the action taken against the company that constructed the power plant regarding low standards and breakdowns that occur;
(iv) whether arrangements will be made to recover the massive amount of money spent on repairs and the lost power during that period from those who responsible for that; and
(v) if the company which did not complete the first phase properly engages in the construction of the other phases too, the reasons for it?
(c) Will he state —
(i) whether plans have been made to provide electricity to the people in a beneficial manner in future; and
(ii) the plan that seeks to bring down the electricity tariff with the stipulated period of time?
(d) If not, why?
