      Hon. Sunil Handunnetti,— To ask the Minister of Foreign Affairs,—

      (a) Is he aware that Nuwan Jayalath Samarasekara of Meepe, Katukurunda, Habaraduwa, Chathuranga Welikumbura of 'Jayarathna', Soramune, Haldummulla and W. Piyum Chinthaka Kularathna of No. 93A25, 2nd Lane, Bandaranayakapura, Indigolla, Gampaha were taken into custody in Iran on March 2013 and that they have been kept imprisoned in the aforesaid country for over a year now?

      (b) Will he state —

      (i) the reason behind the imprisonment of the aforementioned persons; and

      (ii) the steps that have been taken to get them returned to Sri Lanka?

      (c) Will he inform this House —

      (i) whether it is possible for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to intervene in the matter of getting them back to the country given that the aforesaid three persons have been fined with 5,000,000 Iran Riyals and 10,490,834,000 Iran Riyals and two year imprisonment for committing the offenses of entering Iran in violation of the country's laws and theft of goods as per the letter of the Assistant Director (Consular) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs bearing reference FA/cons/cs/iran/13/02;

      (ii) if not, of the steps that can be taken with regard to the aforesaid matter?

      (d) If not, why?
