Hon. Vidura Wickramanayake,— To ask the Prime Minister and Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs,—
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) a group of moulders of the Sri Lanka Transport Board has been recruited to the Voluntary Force of the Sri Lanka Army for the production of armament during the past war period;
(ii) at the particular instance they have been informed of their entitlement to a gratuity and a pension.
(iii) it has been informed through a letter dated 03.12.2012 to the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence by the Secretary to the Committee on Public Petitions to the effect that arrangements should be made to provide these moulders with pensions, having recognized the great service which had been rendered by them; and
(iv) the aforesaid letter has been sent to the Department of Pensions by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence under a circumstance where grants are not available with the Department of Pensions to provide pensions to this group of people?
(b) Will he inform this House of the reason for not adopting the proper methodology in this regard in spite of the fact that it is necessary to adopt a methodology like submitting a cabinet paper for this purpose?
(c) If not, why?
