Hon. Dullas Alahapperuma,—To ask the Minister of Law and Order and Southern Development,—
(a) Will he inform this House —
(i) the number of serious crimes reported in Matara District during the period from the year 2013 up to 2016 as per each police station separately;
(ii) the number of serious crimes mentioned in (i) above as per the nature of the crime committed separately; and
(iii) the legal action taken against the accused of the serious crimes mentioned in (i) above separately?
(b) Will he also inform this House—
(i) whether he accepts the requirement of a Code of Ethics in regard to the media practices to be followed in reporting crimes;
(ii) whether steps will be taken to formulate a Code of Ethics which is acceptable to every party; and
(iii) when the number of crimes and the nature of the crimes committed during the times of the present and previous regimes are considered, whether it is believed that it has any relationship with the present or previous regime?
(c) If not, why?
