Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekara,— To ask the Minister of Plantation Industries,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether a survey has been conducted on the number of coconut trees that were destroyed by the drought condition in 2016 and 2017;
(ii) if so, that number;
(iii) the districts that were severely harmed by the drought; and
(iv) whether he will explain the impact the said harm caused on the coconut production?
(b) Will he also inform this House—
(i) whether steps have been taken to plant coconut saplings in place of the destroyed coconut trees, by now;
(ii) if so, the number of coconut saplings distributed;
(iii) whether those coconut saplings have been distributed free of charge;
(iv) if so, the amount of money spent by the government on that;
(v) if not, the amount charged on a coconut sapling; and
(vi) if coconut saplings have not yet been distributed, the date they will be distributed?
(c) If not, why?
