Hon. (Mrs.) Rohini Kumari Wijerathne,— To ask the Prime Minister and Minister of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development, Vocational Training & Skills Development and Youth Affairs,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) of the number of persons to whom permits have been issued by the Wilgamuwa Divisional Secretariat Division to engage in sand mining in the Mahaweli River;
(ii) of the names, addresses and the contact numbers of the aforesaid persons;
(iii) whether it is admitted that an adverse environmental impact is caused to the Mahaweli river along the Wilgamuwa area as a repercussion of the issuance of these sand mining permits; and
(iv) if so, of the steps that will be taken by the Ministry to avert this destruction?
(b) If not, why?
