      Hon. Nihal Galappaththi,— To ask the Minister of Finance,—

      (a) Will he state,—

      (i) whether he admits that posts of the Excise Inspector Grade have not been created within the Department of Customs;

      (ii) whether the letter dated 27.03.2000 signed by the Director of Customs (Control) absorbing into the Excise Division has been signed on behalf of the Director General of Customs or the Director General of Excise;

      (iii) whether he admits that the Director General of Customs who lacks authority to act under this Excise Act has no authority to issue a letter citing an erroneous salary for a post created under the Excise Department within a context where attention is brought to the fact that the authority vested solely in the Director General of Customs under Excise Act is not exercised properly by Order No.10 of the Public Accounts Committee;

      (iv) whether he admits that an annual salary of Rs. 95,280/- had been paid even by that time as per Circular No. 2/97 iii on the salary scale 85,440/- 5x 2460 = 97,740/-, even though the salary for the said post is given as Rs. 50,520/-7x1320-10x1560=75,360/-; and

      (v) if so, of the measures that will be taken to correct it?

      (b) If not, why?
