      Hon. Charles Nirmalanathan,— To ask the Minister of Fisheries,—

      (a) Is he aware that—

      (i) fishing is one of the occupations of the people living in the districts of Mannar, Killinochchi,  Mullaitivu, Jaffna in Northern Province;

      (ii) thousands of families depend on it;

      (iii) a  situation has occurred in which these fishermen have not been  able to sail for fishing for a long period of time due to Indian trawlers; and

      (iv) Indian vessels cause destruction to the Sri Lankan fishing vessels that sail from the aforesaid areas?

      (b) If so, will he inform this House whether necessary action will be taken to stop the poaching by Indian trawlers and enable our fishermen to engage in fishing activities as usual?

      (c) Is he aware that—

      (i) many fishermen of Southern areas come to Mullaitivu district and engage in fishing activities having stayed there; and

      (ii) obstacles are caused to the fishermen in Mullaitivu district in engaging in  their fishing activities as a result of it?

      (d) Will he also inform this House—

      (i) whether steps will be taken to stop the fishermen of the Southern areas from engaging in fishing activities in the aforesaid areas; and

      (ii) if so, of the aforesaid steps?

      (e) If not, why?
