518/2020 Hon. Shanakiyan Rajaputhiran Rasamanickam,— To ask the Minister of Fisheries,— (a) Is he aware that— (i) the ice factory, which was commenced in the year 1973 and is situated adjoining the Batticaloa district office of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, has remained inactive for more than three years by now, should be renovated and put into operation again; (ii) local fishermen who engage in fishing industry using fishing boats and seine and in the deep sea will be benefitted through it and opportunity will be created to enhance their livelihood as well; and (iii) the sea food required by the teaching hospital and various other institutions can be stored and distributed as it has warehouse facilities? (b) Will he inform this House whether action will be taken to renovate aforesaid ice factory and put it into operation? (C) If not why?
