Hon. Uddika Premarathne,— To ask the Minister of Irrigation,—
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) there is a flood threat for Anuradhapura town due to overflowing Malwathu oya, with the rain fall of Maha season each year; and
(ii) the previous government launched a development project called Malwathu oya development project , in order to minimize aforesaid flood threat?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether aforesaid project is functioning now;
(ii) if so, of the present progress of the aforesaid project;
(iii) the reasons , if aforesaid project has been stalled; and
(iv) the date that aforesaid project will be recommenced?
(c) Will he also inform this House whether a new project will be implemented in order to save the people who reside in the close by areas of the Malwathuoya and the Anuradhapura Town, who suffer due to floods?
(d) If not, why?
