Hon. Gamini Jayawickrama Perera,— To ask the Minister of Industry and Commerce,—
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) there is a sausage factory approved by the Board of Investment in the Makandura Industrial Estate in Pannala in the Kurunegala District ; and
(ii) meat which has passed the expiry date is used to produce sausages in this factory?
(b) Will he inform this House of—
(i) the names of the countries from which chicken is imported to this factory for producing sausages ;
(ii) the names of the countries to which sausages are exported from this factory ; and
(iii) the names of the companies that distribute and sell the produce from this company, in the local market?
(c) Will he state—
(i) whether he is aware that the raw material called textured soya protein which is past the expiry date is used in order to produce sausages at the factory in Makandura ;
(ii) the amount of this raw material which is past the expiry date found from this factory ; and
(iii) the kilogram weight of the consignment of packaged and labled sausages past the expiry date found stored in this factory?
(d) Will he inform this House of the action taken against this factory, which produces sausages that are hazardous to health?
(e) If not, why ?
