Hon. Gamini Jayawickrama Perera,— To ask the Minister of Coconut Development and Janatha Estate Development,—(1)
(a) Will he state—
(i) the locations of the coconut nurseries that are under the Coconut Cultivation Board ;
(ii) whether seed coconuts for the aforesaid nurseries are obtained from the selected mother plants ; and
(iii) if so, the number of parent plants and the number of estates that have parent plants?
(b) Will he state—
(i) the number of coconut saplings issued in the year 2010 ; and
(ii) the number of coconut saplings issued in the Yala and Maha seasons of the years 2009 and 2010, separately, from the aforesaid coconut nurseries?
(c) Will he state—
(i) of the acreage of land under the Coconut Research Board ;
(ii) of the number of coconut saplings issued by the Coconut Research Board in the year 2010 ;
(iii) of the methodology used for making seed coconut nurseries ;
(iv) from which institutes the Coconut Research Board obtains seed coconuts ;
(v) of the number of seed coconuts issued by those institutes in 2009/2010 ;
(vi) whether he admits the fact that those seed coconuts have not been obtained from healthy mother plants ; and
(vii) if so, what action will he taken in this regard?
(d) If not, why ?
