Hon. Jagath Kumara Sumithraarachchi,— To ask the Minister of Women, Child Affairs and Social Empowerment,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether he is aware that a considerable number of women have become the head of the family due to the death of the husband,/abandonment, or for any other reason;
(ii) if so, the number of females who have taken the role of head of the family;
(iii) whether there is a course of action to provide relief to those women; and
(iv) of the number of family units rendered helpless due to the death of the husband/abandonment or for any other reason?
(b) Will he also inform this House—
(i) of the number of family units where the husband is caring for the children without a wife due to the death of the wife/abandonment, or for any other reason; and
(ii) of the course of action that has been implemented to provide relief to those families?
(c) If not, why?
