Hon. Hector Appuhamy,—To ask the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies,— (1)
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether he is aware that the Sri Lanka Customs has taken steps to establish a Committee of Inquiry consisting of experienced senior officers to recommend remedies to the port congestion caused by the delay in the release of imported containers;
(ii) of the names, designations and addresses of the officers who were included in the Committee concerned, separately;
(iii) of the number of containers that have been released without inspection, on the recommendations of the above Committee;
(iv) of the criteria taken into consideration by the Sri Lanka Customs in releasing containers without inspection;
(v) whether he accepts that the release of containers without inspection by the Sri Lanka Customs poses a serious risk; and
(vi) if so, of the measures that will be taken in that regard?
(b) If not, why?
