    1. Hon. Rajeevan Jeyachandramoorthy,— To ask the Minister of Health and Mass Media,— (1)

      (a) Will he state —

      (i) the number of Ayurveda Medical Colleges in Sri Lanka;

      (ii) the reasons as to why the students are not enrolled into the Sri Lanka Ayurveda Siddha Medical College in Jaffna, which was established in 1925, incorporated in 1941 and gazetted in 1949;

      (iii) the current status of it;

      (iv) the reasons for appointing university graduates who do not have any knowledge of traditional medicine to the Department of  Ayurveda;

      (v) whether he is aware that the hereditary doctors accuse that these graduates do not understand their problems;

      (vi) the measures that have been taken in this regard;

      (vii) whether approval is granted to the Medical Colleges of indigenous medicine for the advancement of traditional education in medicine and Ayurveda education in Northern Province; and

      (viii) the legal/administrative measures that will be taken in this regard?

      (b) Will he also state —

      (i) whether an institution will be established to provide identity cards, medical certificates and degrees to hereditary doctors;

      (ii) whether a recruitment scheme and a salary scale will be introduced for them;

      (iii) the reason as to why they do not get the assistance of the government; and

      (iv) whether he acknowledges that the fee of up to  Rs. 5000/-  has to be paid for their registration/ renewal of the identity card/ clinical permit is a burden to them?

      (c) If not, why?
