Hon. Gayantha Karunatileka,— To ask the Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs,—
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) there is a dearth of officers within the Government Translator Service which belongs to the Combined Service;
(ii) external personnel not being attracted to this service due to lack of salaries and privileges that encourages them to join and remain in the service and even those who have joined the service leaving it on a constant basis are the reasons for this dearth of officers;
(iii) the entire service has been downgraded by the Public Administration Circular No.06/2006 in terms of salary scales, in comparison to the other services that had been allied to it earlier; and
(iv) this situation is totally in contradiction with the programme for a tri-lingual Sri Lanka ?
(b) Will he state—
(i) whether any steps have been taken by now to reinstate the due recognition and service status that the said Translator Service has been deprived of;
(ii) if so, what those steps are; and
(iii) the date on which the above steps will be implemented ?
(c) If not, why ?
