Hon. Dunesh Gankanda,— To ask the Minister of Higher Education,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) the number of students studying in the national universities as of now;
(ii) of them, the number provided with hostel facilities;
(iii) whether he is aware that a pledge has been given in ‘Mahinda Chintana’ and Mahinda Chinthana—Vision for the Future of the year 2010 to provide hostel facilities to every undergraduate;
(iv) the programme carried out during the period from the year 2006 to 2013 to make that pledge a reality; and
(v) whether he is aware that this programme has not been adequate to reach the goal providing hostel facilities to every undergraduate?
(b) Will he also inform this House whether attention will be paid on paying a monthly allowance of Two Thousand Rupees (Rs. 2000/-) to undergraduates who have not been provided with hostel facilities as per the pledges mentioned in (a) (iii) above until such facilities are made available to them?
(c) If not, why?
