Hon. Sunil Handunnetti,— To ask the Minister of Finance,—
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) a statement was made in Parliament on 23.03.1990 by the then Minister in charge of that Board to the effect that the River Valley Development Board will be closed down with effect from 31.03.1990 having paid a compensation ranging from Rs. 96,000/- to Rs. 265,000/- to each of its employees;
(ii) in spite of the statement made, only an amount of Rs. 50,000/- had been paid to those workers; and
(iii) they have been rendered destitute under the aforesaid circumstance?
(b) Will he inform this House of the date on which action will be taken to pay the compensation dues in arrears to those workers who had worked in the River Valley Development Board?
(c) Will he state—
(i) whether provision of houses and lands to all the workers has been completed by now, as per the statement made to the effect that ownership of official quarters which belonged to the River Valley Development Board by then would be transferred to the workers residing in them at the moment and that land would be provided to the other workers who are without houses; and
(ii) if so, whether the provision of title deeds for the aforesaid houses and lands has been completed by now?
(d) If not, why?
