      Hon. E. Saravanapavan,— To ask the Minister of National Co-existence, Dialogue and Official Languages,—

      (a) Is he aware that—

      (i) priority in terms of ethnic ratio, language ratio and regions was not given when applications were called for the post of Community Development Assistants by the Ministry of National Languages and Social Integration of the previous government;

      (ii) vacancies occurred as this Ministry did not operate in the Northern and Eastern areas for over 30 years;

      (iii) the then President temporarily suspended the selection of 189, 15 and 01 candidates respectively to fill 205 vacancies islandwide by disregarding the facts mentioned in (i) above as a result of the objection raised by the Members of Parliament of the Tamil National Alliance in Parliament; and

      (iv) however, the above mentioned persons have been recruited for the post of Community Development Assistants as in (iii) above by disregarding the facts mentioned in (i) above?

      (b) Will he inform this House—

      (i) of the manner, the Ministry intends to fill the vacancies that exist in the Northern and Eastern Provinces;

      (ii) whether he admits that your Ministry has not made arrangements to give priority to the facts mentioned in (i) above within good governance; and

      (iii) if so, whether arrangements will be made to overcome that shortcoming?

      (c) If not, why?
