Hon. Vijitha Berugoda,— To ask the Minister of Education,—
(a) Will he inform this House separately on the basis of each District and each year during the past five years—
(i) the number of students that sat for the Grade five scholarship examination;
(ii) the number of students that passed the Grade five scholarship examination;
(iii) the number of students that passed the Grade five scholarship examination as a percentage of the number that sat for the examination;
(iv) the number of students that receive student bursary out of the students that passed the examination; and
(v) the number of students that were admitted to popular schools out of the students that passed the examination?
(b) Will he also inform this House—
(i) whether he admits that issues and shortcomings were reported from some examination centers during the Grade 5 scholarship examination which was held in August 2016;
(ii) if so, of the names of examination centers from which incidents of such nature were reported;
(iii) of the persons responsible for the aforementioned incidents;
(iv) whether a formal investigation will be carried out regarding aforementioned persons responsible;
(v) whether he admits that students who had to face such issues have been subjected to injustice; and
(vi) if so, whether action will be taken to serve justice to those students?
(c) If not, why?
