Hon. Bandula Gunawardana,— To ask the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development,—
(a) Will he inform this House —
(i) whether a life insurance scheme for the value of one million Rupees to cover hazards that occur at sea has been launched with the objective of ensuring the safety of the fisher folk in keeping with proposal No.145 of the 2016 budget;
(ii) if so, of the insurance premium that is paid to the respective institutions which provide the aforesaid insurance cover;
(iii) of the amount of compensation paid under the aforesaid insurance scheme; and
(iv) whether a list of fishermen who have received life insurance covers under this scheme would be submitted?
(b) If not, why?
