      Hon. Vidura Wickramanayaka,— To ask the Minister of Education,—

      (a) Is he aware that—

      (i) there is fierce competition to get children admitted to the popular schools, especially the National Schools in the island;

      (ii) parents inconvenienced as a result, make requests to the Ministry of Education as well to get their children admitted to those schools;

      (iii) a list of names of students to be admitted to different grades at Horana Thakshila Central College has been sent to the Principal of that school by the Ministry of Education, after considering such a request made by a group of parents;

      (iv) some parents have been informed by certain individuals who are representatives of past pupils that a sum of Rs.5 lakhs was expected for school development work to give priority to names in the said list?

      (b) Will he admit that emergence of a situation of running after money at Central Colleges founded by the Father of Free Education for future advancement of specially the poor children is a serious offence as well as a serious injustice?

      (c) Will he inform this House whether steps would be taken for action against the individuals responsible for this situation?

      (d) If not, why?
