Hon. Vasudeva Nanayakkara,—To ask the Minister of Higher Education and Highways,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether he admits that it was planned to enrol 125 students under 3 degree courses affiliated to the Ratnapura General Hospital in 2010 having proposed to establish a Faculty of Medicine for the Sabaragamuwa University in 2007;
(ii) whether he is aware that 75 students for the Medical degree, 25 students for the Nursing degree and 25 students for the paramedical degree Programmes were due to be enrolled accordingly;
(iii) whether he is aware that there is a land with an extent of 21 acres near the Ratnapura General Hospital that belongs to the university for this purpose; and
(iv) whether he admits that the Medical faculty of the Sabaragamuwa University has not yet been established despite 7 years have lapsed after the plans have been made?
(b) Will he also inform this House whether steps will be taken to establish the Faculty of Medicine of the Sabaragamuwa University which has been delayed by years, forthwith at a time when a decisive regarding medical education has taken root in the country?
(c) If not, why?
