Hon. Anura Sidney Jayarathne,—To ask the Minister of Education,—
(a) Will he inform this House —
(i) of the action that will be taken in future by the Ministry to develop the Girihandu Seya Buddhist temple located in Thiriyaya in the Trincomalee District, which is an important place of Buddhist worship with historical significance;
(ii) whether he is aware of the fact that the historic stone inscription which mentions the Thapassu-Bhalluka brothers, which is located in the Girihandu Seya Vihara premises, is exposed to the elements without any shelter to protect it;
(iii) of the steps that will be taken in future by the Department of Archaeology to prevent further destruction of the aforesaid stone inscription;
(iv) of the steps that will be taken in future to develop the sacred area belonging to Girihandu Seya sacred area into a sacred city?
(b) If not, why?
