Hon. Mahindananda Aluthgamage,— To ask the Minister of Public Enterprise Development,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) the Employees’ Provident Fund contributions, Employees’ Trust Fund contributions and Gratuity Payments deducted from the salaries of the workers of the estates belonging to the Janatha Estate Development Board and state Plantation Corporation had not been paid to the workers even at the end of 2016;
(ii) the number of workers employed in these estates and the outstanding amounts to be paid to them separately;
(iii) whether he admits that a grave injustice has been caused to the family members of some of the workers who were to receive the payments and are now dead as a result of not making those payments;
(iv) whether steps would be taken to make those payments to the workers immediately;and
(v) if so, when?
(b) If not, why?
