The Second Reading debate of the “Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal)” Bill will be held tomorrow (10) from 11.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m., as decided today (09) at the Committee on Parliamentary Business Chaired by Hon. Speaker (Dr.) Jagath Wickramaratne.
The Secretary General further stated that the vote on the Bill is scheduled to be taken at 3.30 p.m. following the debate. Thereafter, from 3.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., the debate on Motion at the Adjournment Time by the Opposition regarding “the need to provide farmers with guaranteed prices and to resolve the challenges they face” will be taken up.
It has also been decided that, as previously determined at the Committee on Parliamentary Business, the Mediation (Civil and Commercial Disputes) Bill, which was scheduled to be taken up tomorrow (for the Second Reading debate), will instead be taken up on a future date. This decision was reached after considering the representations made by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka and several other parties requesting additional time for discussions on the proposed amendments to this Bill, as presented by the Minister of Justice and National Integration Harshana Nanayakkara, Attorney at Law.
