The Hon. Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced to the House today (26) that a Select Committee to look into and report to the Parliament its recommendations to ensure gender equity and equality with special emphasis on looking into gender-based discriminations and violations of women’s rights in Sri Lanka under the chairmanship of State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control Hon. (Dr.) (Mrs.) Sudarshini Fernandopulle.
Furthermore, the Hon Speaker further announced that Ministers and Members of Parliament, namely; Hon. Nimal Siripala de Silva, Hon. G. L. Peiris, Hon. Pavithra Devi Wanniarachchi, Hon. Piyal Nishantha, Hon. (Dr.) Seetha Arambepola, Dilan Perera, Thalatha Atukorale, Hon. Eran Wickramaratne, Hon. J. C. Alawathuwala, Hon. Sivagnanam Shritharan, Hon. Imran Maharoof, Hon. Rohini Kumari Wijerathna, Hon. M. Udayakumar, Hon. Jagath Kumara, Hon. Geetha Kumarasinghe, Hon. Kokila Gunawardena, Hon. Muditha Prashanthi, Hon. Rohana Bandara, Hon. Ali Sabri Raheem, Hon. M. Rameshwaran, Hon. Rajika Wickramasinghe, Hon. Manjula Dissanayake, Hon. (Dr) Harini Amarasuriya and Hon. Diana Gamage will be appointed as members of this committee.
Hon. (Dr.) Sudarshini Fernandopulle had made a request to the Hon. Speaker on the 09th of March to establish a Select Committee to look into and report to the Parliament its recommendations to ensure gender equity and equality with special emphasis on looking into gender-based discriminations and violations of women’s rights in Sri Lanka.
