      Hon. S. M. Marikkar,—To ask the Minister of Finance & Mass Media,—

      (a) Will he inform this House—

      (i) whether East Hewagam Korala Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited has applied for, obtained or reserved treasury bills through a finance company administered under the Central Bank of Sri Lanka;

      (ii) if so, the said amount;

      (iii) the date on which this transaction was executed;

      (iv) as to what has happened to the money of this society;

      (v) whether the Central Bank of Sri Lanka  has no responsibility in this regard;

      (vi) whether the institution wherein money was deposited is in operation as of now; and

      (vii) the owners of the said institution?

      (b) Will he also inform this House—

      (i) the measures to be taken in respect of the depositors of the rural banks of East Hewagam Korala Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited;

      (ii) whether the Board of Directors of the Cooperative Society can deposit money in a private financial company other than a state bank;

      (iii) the measures to be taken to recover the loss from the Board of Directors as a result of depositing public money at their whim; and

      (iv) the measures that can be taken by the government in this regard?

      (c) If not, why?
