Hon. Nihal Galappaththi,— To ask the Minister Finance & Mass Media,—
(a) Will inform this House—
(i) whether he admits that the job title of the Excise Inspectors who were appointed to the post of Excise Duty Inspector in addition to the post of Excise Inspector for carrying out duties under the Excise Act in accordance with a Cabinet decision has been changed as Excise Duty Inspector;
(ii) whether he would deny the answers given on 19.09.1995 to a question raised in Parliament by Mr. Sarath Ranawaka, MP, regarding an issue related to the service of the Excise Duty Inspectors;
(iii) whether he would admit that, after the Supreme Court case No. 231/98 had come to a settlement, in terms of Paragraph 7 of the letter that was issued for absorbing these officers to the Excise Duty Division of the Department of Customs, the conditions in appointment to the post of Excise Guard and the conditions in Inspector of Excise Grade (Excise Duty Inspector Grade) shall be in effect as they are; and
(iv) whether he admits that the recommendation given by the Public Service Commission that only absorbing from one department to another had been done according the order issued by the government without appointing to a new position?
(b) If not, why?
