Hon. S. M. Marikkar,— To ask the Minister of Finance,—
(a) Is he aware —
(i) that it has been disclosed by the Price Water House Coopers audit firm that corruption and frauds have taken place in the Lanka Puthra Bank during the period in which the position of the CEO was held by Mrs. Shiromani Wickramasinghe, the sister of Ajith Niwad Cabral, the former governor of the Central Bank;
(ii) that loans had been granted to persons with political affiliations contravening the Bank Act from the year 2006 to 2014; and
(iii) that certain loans had been granted without considering the re-paying ability keeping as sureties, the lands possessed by the government, lands possessed by the temples, barren lands and quartz depicted as gems?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) of the persons and institutions that have obtained loans in this manner;
(ii) of the loan amount obtained by each of the aforesaid persons and the institutions;
(iii) of the amount that has been hitherto paid back, out of the aforesaid loans;
(iv) whether legal action has been taken against the then Board of Directors including the CEO that approved the grant of such loans;
(v) if so, of the progress of the legal proceedings; and
(vi) if not so, whether proper legal measures will be taken pertaining to this matter?
(c) If not, why?
