Hon. Mayantha Dissanayake,— To ask the Minister of Primary Industries and Social Empowerment,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) to which extent the expected objectives of the Department of Samurdhi Development have been achieved, which was established with the intention of alleviating poverty in Sri Lanka;
(ii) of the amount spent annually for Samurdhi assistance; and
(iii) of the number of families who do not receive Samurdhi benefits but expectant of it?
(b) Will he state—
(i) whether it can be contented that the Samurdhi beneficiaries were selected in an impartial manner in the recent past;
(ii) if not, the new method that will be adopted for the purpose;
(iii) whether it is admitted that Samurdhi Development Officers and beneficiaries were used for political purposes;
(iv) if so, the measures that will be taken to prevent such activities in the future; and
(v) whether the Samurdhi Fund will be audited under the National Audit Act which was passed recently?
(c) If not, why?
