Hon. Thushara Indunil Amarasena,— To ask the Minister of Primary Industries and Social Empowerment,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) of the income that Sri Lanka earned by betel exports from years 2010 to 2014 and from the year 2017 to date;
(ii) of the number of families engaged in betel cultivation in Kurunegala district;
(iii) whether he is aware that the farmers are unable to sell their betel since Pakistan, the major betel purchaser of Sri lanka, has imposed huge taxes; and
(iv) of the measures taken by the Ministry having intervened into aforesaid situation in order to uplift the living standards of the betel farmers?
(b) If not, why?
