Hon. Kanaka Herath,— To ask the Minister of Primary Industries and Social Empowerment,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) the welfare facilities provided by the government for the adults (over 60 years) in Sri Lanka;
(ii) the percentage of adults population in Sri Lanka in respect of each year in 2001 and 2011;
(iii) according to the projections, the approximate percentage of the adult population in Sri Lanka by 2021;
(iv) whether he is aware that the percentage of adult population in Sri Lanka is rapidly increasing annually; and
(v) if so, whether any programme has been launched to ensure the safety and welfare of the adult population which is rapidly increasing?
(b) Will he also inform this House —
(i) whether the Identity Card for senior citizens issued to the adults has been able to provide for the relief that the government intended to provide; and
(ii) whether your ministry will intervene and exempt the taxes imposed on fixed deposits of senior citizens?
(c) Will he further inform this House—
(i) the number of elder care homes in Sri Lanka; and
(ii) the criteria that have been adopted to consider the standards of the elder care homes?
(d) If not, why?
