Hon. Indika Anuruddha Herath,— To ask the Prime Minister and Minister of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development and Youth Affairs,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) the number of professionally qualified registered contractors identified for carrying out the constructions of the government in the island;
(ii) the basic professional qualifications that the said contractors should possess to carry out constructions in the respective fields;
(iii) the total amount paid to the government contractors in the year 2018 for the constructions of the government;
(iv) the amount that remains to be paid to the government contractors for the year 2018 for the constructions of the government;
(v) whether he acknowledges that the contractors engaged in the said field experience severe financial constraints owing to the delay in making the relevant payments and the resultant collapse of their business activities has a detrimental impact on the national economy; and
(vi) the date on which the relevant contractors will be paid the said amounts in arrears?
(b) If not, why?
