Hon. (Dr.) Bandula Gunawardana,— To ask the Minister of Finance,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) the measures adopted to encourage foreign companies for dollar listing in the Colombo Stock Exchange as per budget proposal Nos. 294 and 295 of the budget proposals presented in 2016;
(ii) whether market capitalization of the Colombo Stock Exchange was increased to Rs. 50 billion from Rs. 28 billion as per proposal No. 295;
(iii) whether it is intended to introduce and operate the ‘Capital Gains Tax’ as stated by the Hon. Prime Minister on a number of occasions;
(iv) whether he acknowledges that the Super Gains Tax imposed in the year 2015 had served as a severe impediment for the development of the Stock Exchange; and
(v) whether it is expected to impose taxes with retrospective effect?
(b) If not, why?
