Hon. Kanaka Herath,— To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Economic Affairs, Irrigation and Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Development,—
(a) Will he state—
(i) the income earned by Sri Lanka from the fisheries industry during the last 5 years, separately in respect of each year; and
(ii) the income earned by Sri Lanka from the export of fish products during the last 5 years, separately in respect of each year?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether the products of the fisheries industry of Sri Lanka are not adequate for the consumption of the country;
(ii) whether fish products are imported to the country;
(iii) if so, the amount of money spent for same;
(iv) whether the fisheries industry of the country is not subject to a decline through the import of fish products; and
(v) when there is potential for the large scale development of the fisheries industry of the country which is surrounded by the sea, why it has not been done?
(c) If not, why?
