Hon. Dilip Wedaarachchi,— To ask the Minister of Justice,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) the progress of the investigation that has been carried out by an official of the Ministry into the unavailability of information in the Department of National Archives about the heroes from Hambantota area who led the Uva-Wellassa uprising in 1818 and 1819; and
(ii) whether information has been received that the aforesaid heroes have been named as traitors?
(b) Will he also inform this House—
(i) whether he is aware, that the letter dated 14.01.2020 that was sent by the then Additional Secretary to the Ministry of National Heritage to the Additional Secretary (Legal) of the Ministry of Justice states, that the District Secretary of the Hambantota District has proposed that it would be appropriate to declare those heroes as National Heroes; and
(ii) If so, the measures that have been taken in that regard?
(c) If not, why?
