Hon. Gamini Jayawickrama Perera,— To ask the Minister of Economic Development,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) the year in which the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage was started ;
(ii) the number of elephants in it at the inception ;
(iii) the number of elephants born in the elephant orphanage from the beginning up to date ; and
(iv) the number of elephants and tuskers released to the jungle?
(v) the number of elephants that have died in the elephant orphanage in each year since its start?
(b) Will he state—
(i) the age of the calf elephant which was obtained from the Pinnawala elephant orphanage and offered to the Matara Aluthnuwara Devala by the President ; and
(ii) whether the mother of that calf is alive?
(c) If not, why ?
