Hon. Wasantha Yapabandara, Attorney at Law,— To ask the Minister of Urban Development and Housing,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether he is aware that roadside tree planting has been done using trees with an environmental value in the Kandy city under the City beautification programme of Sri Lanka currently;
(ii) whether steps will be taken to do the roadside tree planting using trees with an environmental value in place of the old trees in the major cities in the district of Kandy under the said programme;
(iii) if so, whether the appropriate cities in the district of Kandy have been identified to implement the aforementioned programme;
(iv) the said cities; and
(v) the date on which the said programme will be implemented?
(b) Will he also inform this House—
(i) whether he is aware that the beauty and the cleanliness of the Kandy city have been negatively affected due to the beggars who constantly roam in the public places and the places with a historical importance located in the Kandy city;
(ii) if so, whether steps will be taken to direct the aforesaid beggars to any other appropriate location; and
(iii) if so, the steps that will be taken in that regard?
(c) If not, why?
