Hon. Abdul Haleem,— To ask the Minister of Water Supply and Drainage,—
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) Many villages in the Akurana Divisional Secretariat Division in the Kandy District have been provided with drinking water facilities by the water supply scheme commenced on Finland aid in 1980?
(ii) How ever Alawathugoda area in the Akurana Divisional Secretariat Division is provided with drinking water only for a few hours once a fortnight; and
(iii) Further the residents of Kendagolla , Balakaduwa, Siestan place, Nagahapitiya, Wendesiwatta (Auctioned land), Hipitiya, Delgasgoda, Arambepola and Mawathupola including Alawathugoda town in the Same Divisional Secretariat Division are faced with a severe shortage of drinking water?
(b) Will he inform this House whether the drinking water facility provided to most villages in the Akurana Divisional Secretariat Division throughout the 24 hours daily with the waters of the Mahaweli river, will be accorded to the above villages too?
(c) If not, why?
