Hon. Shanakiyan Rajaputhiran Rasamanickam,— To ask the Prime Minister and Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government,
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) the basic facilities of the Kaluwanchikudy market complex/market, including sanitary facilities and the drainage system, where more than 1300 businessmen engage in business activities are inadequate;
(ii) the traders have to engage in business activities outside the complex as there are no permanent buildings available and they have to face immense difficulties during the rainy season;
(iii) fishmongers have to encounter number of difficulties as well since the fish market is not equipped with technical facilities; and
(iv) the roads of the market complex are in a dilapidated condition?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether measures will be taken to develop the aforesaid market complex/market; and
(ii) if so, the date of commencement of the development activities?
(c) If not, why?
