Hon. Gunathilaka Rajapaksha,— To ask the Minister of Transport and Highways,—
(a) Will he admit that—
(i) the train services in the upcountry railway line are constantly disrupted by landslides;
(ii) both the foreigners and local passengers are seriously inconvenienced by the delays of trains as a consequence of the above condition;
(iii) it is not an efficient measure to deploy army soldiers and railway labourers to renovate the aforesaid railway tracks; and
(iv) the state of the art technology is used by other countries in the world when this kind of renovations are done?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) whether steps will be taken to manufacture a Backhoe Machine to remove soil in the railway tracks, making use of the expertise of the engineers and technical officers of the Department of Railway; and
(ii) if so, the measures that have been taken with regard to this matter?
(c) If not why?
