Hon. Yadamini Gunawardena,— To ask the Minister of Irrigation,—
(a) Is he aware that—
(i) the damage caused to the people living near the river banks and the damage caused annually on the national economy have been minimized through the control of floods in river valleys as a consequence of the implementation of multi-purpose development schemes in the Mahaweli, Walawe and Galoya river valleys; and
(ii) no multi-purpose development scheme has hitherto been implemented related to the Kelani river?
(b) Will he inform this House—
(i) the allocations made during the last 05 years on reparations for floods;
(ii) out of the aforesaid amount, the amount allocated on the reparation for floods in the Kelani river;
(iii) the number of persons who got affected by floods during the last 05 years; and
(iv) out of the above, the number of persons who got affected due to the floods in the Kelani river?
(c) Will he also inform this House—
(i) whether the allocation made is sufficient for the control of floods in the Kelani river;
(ii) whether a project plan has been made to control floods in the Kelani river?
(d) If not, why?
