Hon. M. S. Thowfeek,— To ask the Prime Minister and Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government,—
(a) Will he inform this House—
(i) of the local government authorities in the Southern Province which do not have simultaneous interpretation facilities for Sinhala, Tamil and English in the chambers where monthly council meetings are held;
(ii) whether local government areas in the Southern Province where significant numbers of Tamil-speaking people live have been identified;
(iii) if so, of the aforesaid local authorities; and
(iv) whether simultaneous interpretation facility is provided at the monthly council meetings of the Local Authorities in the Southern Province in which both Sinhala and Tamil languages are considered as the administrative languages?
(b) If not, why?
